Voyages

When I finally pull the

scarf from off my eyes

and shake some of

the sand on my shirt collar

and squeeze my eyes

and sit patiently under

the sun’s lesson

reminding me how

blinding change can be

shapes fill back into

my world

and I’m pleasantly

surprised to remember

the defined edges of

things

which dissolve in

my daydreams

A serving platter has

Had its top pulled back

To show off the steaming

Cargo

Stacked and lined

Neatly

Tenements aboard an

Oce3an liner

Which freeze at night

And burn in sun

So there’s never really

A time

To go home

 Aboard these vessels

Which look like this

And do the sailors’ eyes

Ever adjust to

Singapore or

Dakar

And what use will

those tenements be

if their walls and

plumbing are stripped away

by daydreams
